Redesign Brings New Look, Rich Editorial and Apps from Microsoft, Adobe and Others

Alongside macOS Mojave, Apple is previewing an all-new Mac App Store featuring a new look and rich editorial content that will make it easier than ever to find great Mac apps. Like the iOS App Store, which was redesigned last year, the new Mac App Store celebrates apps, games and developers with an all-new Discover tab featuring compelling stories, in-depth interviews, helpful tips, collections of must-have apps and more. Users can also explore new Create, Work, Play and Develop tabs to find the perfect app for a specific project or purpose — from music, video and photography apps to business utilities and games.
“Since its launch in 2011, the Mac App Store has become the single largest catalog of Mac apps and today remains the safest and best place to get Mac apps for users around the world,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “We are excited to usher in a new era for the Mac App Store with a beautiful new look, unique editorial content and emphasis on human curation that complements the ways people are using their Macs today.”

Great New Apps

The Mac App Store already offers the largest catalog of Mac apps and even more great apps are joining. Apps coming soon include Office from Microsoft, Lightroom CC from Adobe, BBEdit from Bare Bones, Transmit from Panic, Lens Studio from Snap Inc. and Houseparty, among others.
“Office 365 provides the best of both worlds for Mac users — a productivity experience that is unmistakably Office, but specifically designed for the Mac,” said Kirk Koenigsbauer, corporate vice president at Microsoft. “We’re excited to provide our joint customers with easy access to downloads and updates by bringing Office to the newly redesigned Mac App Store.”

Best apps for the mac
With the new Discover tab, each week users can find in-depth editorial about the best Mac Apps through stories and collections and see what’s most popular with top charts. For the first time, helpful videos that autoplay will provide users with dynamic app previews so they can see an app in action before downloading it.
Create, Work, Play and Develop tabs provide helpful recommendations and expertise about apps within each of these themes. These tabs will also help users make the most of apps they might already have with tips and tutorials that even the most expert users will find useful.
The new Mac App Store will be available with macOS Mojave this fall. The developer preview of macOS Mojave is available to Apple Developer Program members at developer.apple.com starting today, and a public beta program will be available to Mac users in late June at beta.apple.com. App Store Connect is a suite of web-based tools for managing apps sold on the App Store for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch,Apple TV, and iMessage. As a member of the Apple Developer Program, you’ll use App Store Connect to submit and manage apps, invite users to test with TestFlight, add tax and banking information, access sales reports, and more.

Getting Started

Once you’ve completed your enrollment in the Apple Developer Program, you can sign in to App Store Connect with the Apple ID you used to enroll. If you already have an App Store Connect account for distributing another media type besides apps (music, TV, movies, or books) or for using Apple Business Manager, the same Apple ID cannot be used to manage apps. When you enroll in the Apple Developer Program, you’ll need to use a different Apple ID.

Managing Users and Roles

The person who enrolled in the Apple Developer Program is the Account Holder, and has full access to App Store Connect. The Account Holder can provide access to additional team members by adding them Users and Access in App Store Connect. User access can be limited to certain development tools and specific apps. If a user needs full access, you can assign them the Admin role.

Note: If you’re enrolled as an individual and add users in App Store Connect, users receive access only to your content in App Store Connect and are not considered part of your team in the Apple Developer Program. They will not receive access to other membership tools and benefits.

Managing Agreements, Tax, and Banking Information

To sell apps on the App Store, the Account Holder needs to sign the Paid Applications agreement in Agreements, Tax, and Banking. Then, you’ll enter your organization’s tax and banking information, as well as contact information for employees in your organization who can address legal, financial, or marketing issues that may arise. U.S. tax forms are required for all developers, and tax forms for Australia, Canada, Japan, or Brazil may be required.

Adding Your App’s Information and Metadata

To get started in distributing your app on the App Store, add your app’s information, such as pricing details, descriptions, keywords, screenshots, and more, in App Store Connect. You can do this even before you’re done developing your app.

Uploading App Previews and Screenshots

You can upload app previews and screenshots of your app to demonstrate the features, functionality, and user interface through images and a short video, which will be displayed to customers on your App Store product page. You can provide up to ten screenshots and three optional app previews.

Uploading Your App

Once your app details have been entered in App Store Connect, you can upload a build using Xcode or Application Loader. All uploads display on the Activity section of My Apps in App Store Connect, and can be selected for distribution through TestFlight or on the App Store.

Adding In-App Purchase Information

You can use in-app purchases to sell a variety of content within your app, including subscriptions, services, and additional features. You can also promote your in-app purchases directly on the App Store, increasing discoverability for content previously only found inside your app. Users can browse in-app purchases directly on the App Store and start a purchase even before downloading your app.

Before releasing your app on the App Store, use TestFlight to distribute your beta apps and app updates to testers for valuable feedback. Enter testing information and invite testers in App Store Connect by adding their names and email addresses or by sharing a public invitation link.

Submitting Your App

When you are ready, choose the build you’d like to submit to App Review. Later, you can make improvements to your app with periodic app updates.
